TALENTSBRIDGE GERMANY – NAMIBIA

OVERVIEW

In order to effectively counteract the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in Germany, the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Berlin) is launching a pilot project for international workforce development.

Under the auspices of the non-profit association TalentsBridge e.V. and in cooperation with the IHK Berlin, a training center is being set up in Namibia to qualify skilled workers according to German standards and prepare them for both the German and Namibian labor markets. The IHK Berlin will monitor the quality of the training and support the transition to the German labor market, paving the way for other chambers that wish to participate. The project is being developed in the context of the long-standing city partnership between Windhoek and Berlin.

Key facts:

  • Recognized qualifications and language and cultural training enable Namibian young people to integrate successfully into the German and Namibian labor markets.

  • A new, practice-oriented level of training bridges the gap between school-based vocational training and university studies.

  • Train-the-trainer programs based on German standards ensure knowledge transfer and increase the quality of training.

  • Company settlements in the African market strengthen practical relevance and create sustainable added value on both sides.

  • A scalable pilot model enables expansion to up to 3,000 trainees per year, can be transferred to other countries, and thus offers a solution for global competition for skilled workers and labor.

  • The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture, and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board.
