African Union MSME Forum | Support for MSME Development and Export Promotion

Partners: Bank Windhoek, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Hollard Namibia, M&G Investments, Momentum Metropolitan, and United Nations Development Programme

Impact: The 3rd AU SME Forum, held from 9–13 September 2024 in Windhoek, brought together over 400 African stakeholders to explore how financial tools and educational innovation can empower MSMEs. Organised by the NIPDB on behalf of the African Union Commission, the forum highlighted Namibia’s strategic role in advancing SME development across the continent. The forum hosted 494 participants, including 80 MSMEs. Chelete Cage pitch winners received nearly N$250,000 in cash prizes, with additional support from ITC, AWS, and the AU. The exhibition market generated sales of approximately N$50,000, contributing N$10,000 in VAT. Testimonial: “We put a lot of pressure on this sector to produce results and stay the course on a trajectory that they themselves have put into motion, including job-creation, growing their market share and looking for trading opportunities beyond our borders. Africa Hospitality Investment Forum 2024 | Support for Investment Promotion

Partners: First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank Namibia, Ohlthaver and List Leisure, De Beers Group, Namibia Tourism Board and Frans Indongo Group

Impact: Namibia made history as the first Southern African country to host the Africa Hospitality Investment Forum (AHIF) in June 2024, positioning itself as a premier tourism and investment destination. As Host Partner, the NIPDB showcased Namibia’s unique tourism offerings, aligning with national goals to grow the sector as a key economic driver. The event generated USD 365 million in potential business, USD 396,000 in direct local spending, and 274 annualised job opportunities. Nine Namibian tourism projects were also pitched to investors, enhancing visibility and prospects for capital inflows. Namibia in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook | Support for Competitiveness & Nation Branding

Partner: Firstrand Group Namibia

Impact: In April 2023, Cabinet approved Namibia’s participation in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook Rankings, with the NIPDB as lead partner and support from the FirstRand Group. This initiative benchmarks Namibia’s economic performance globally, with a strong focus on quantitative data. Working with key institutions, including the NSA and Bank of Namibia, the NIPDB coordinated data collection and an Executive Opinion Survey. These efforts led to a Special Report on Namibia’s competitiveness, which informed a Cabinet-endorsed Theory of Change to guide reforms and improve the country’s global competitiveness and ease of doing business. MSC Cruises | Support for Talent, Innovation and Productivity

Partner: MSC Cruises

Impact: In partnership with the NIPDB, MSC Cruises launched a recruitment initiative in Namibia in June 2024 to create job opportunities and support economic development. The campaign attracted over 8,100 applications for 25 onboard roles in hospitality, culinary services, wellness, housekeeping, sales, and administration. As a result, 42 Namibians received letters of intent, with eight already onboarded and five scheduled to depart. The remaining candidates are finalising checks, though some face delays due to financial constraints linked to medical costs. Tokyo International Conference on African Development

Japan, 20-22 August 2025

Strategic sessions to showcase Namibia's investment and export potential across five target areas: renewable energy, food industry, mining and mineral processing, manufacturing, logistics, education, and tourism. This is an all in one brand Namibia event that will require all hands on deck to showcase the best of Namibia from arts to cuisine to tourism to investments and more to one of the world’s top economy with little Namibian penetration.

Global Africa Hydrogen Summit

Namibia, 09 - 11 September 2025

Premier summit to accelerate investments and financing into bankable green hydrogen projects across Africa. Under the theme “Ambition in Action: Fuelling Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution,” the summit will convene heads of state, ministers, industry leaders, investors, and technologists to foster partnerships and drive the continent's green energy agenda. Various sponsorship opportunities exist.

African Energy Week

South Africa, 29 September - 03 October 2025

A premier, week-long continental platform dedicated to accelerating energy investment and fostering strategic collaboration across Africa’s energy value chain. The event brings together policymakers, industry leaders, investors, and innovators to advance dialogue on oil, gas, and renewable energy development, while promoting energy security, local content, and sustainable growth. Namibia plans to continue showcase our abundant energy resources.

A leading trade show for the global meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry, the event provides countries – including Namibia - with a platform to showcase their unique venues, cultural richness, and tourism infrastructure to a diverse and high-level audience of industry professionals. An international expo aimed at promoting export-ready products and investment opportunities across global markets. The annual event showcases high-potential sectors such as agribusiness, fisheries, mining and critical minerals, green hydrogen and renewable energy, tourism, and manufacturing.

Conference of the Parties 30

Brazil, 10 - 21 November 2025

COP is the largest global climate summit convening world leaders to accelerate climate action. COP30 will be held under the theme “Economy for the Transition.” Annually, NIPDB participates in Namibia’s delegation to COP, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism and the Environmental Investment Fund. Besides participating at COP, this event provides an opportunity for Namibia to showcase herself to the largest South American economy and use this as a foot in the door to this large market.

European Union-Namibia Business Forum

Namibia, 24-25 March 2026

A strategic platform to deepen trade and investment cooperation between Namibia and the EU. The forum will focus on five priority sectors: green industrialisation, agri-business, automotive manufacturing, cultural and creative industries, and key enablers for trade and investment – laying the foundation for sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships. This second edition, following the inaugural session hosted in Brussels in October 2023, will be hosted in Namibia and we look forward to hosting many potential business from various EU member states.

Africa Blue Economy Summit

Namibia, March 2026

A continental platform aimed at advancing sustainable marine-based economic development in Namibia and across Africa. The event is set to promote the blue economy as a driver of inclusive growth, innovation, and environmental stewardship through investment, policy dialogue, and regional collaboration.

The Development and Scalability of the MSME Sector

The promotion of local MSMEs is critical for the achievement of the NIPDB’s mission to unlock opportunities that enable a better quality of life for all Namibians. As such, we participate in and carry out a number of capacity building, market access, business advisory and ecosystem optimisation programmes. We invite support in varied forms from the Namibian business and civil community.

Intra-African Trade Fair

Algeria, 04 - 10 September 2025

Pan-African event to boost and facilitate trade and partnerships among African MSMEs. As the sole pan-African business-to-business cross-sector trade fair, IATF offers a unique platform for African buyers and sellers to connect, explore business opportunities, and attract global investors and trade organisations in alignment with AFCFTA goals. Namibia pms to continue hosting a number of MSME at our country Pavillion. Prior participation has yielded benefits including market access for our MSMEs and local products. This is critical if Namibia wants to increase exports to the continent and building on the foundations of the first container exported under AfCFTA during the 2024 year.

ScaleUp Namibia

An NIPDB platform for collaborative problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and resource pooling to address the systemic challenges faced by entrepreneurs and innovators. Building a vibrant StartUp and ScaleUp ecosystem is one of the key steps to youth empowerment and new business establishment.

Boosting Skills For Economic Growth

The Talent, Innovation and Productivity (TIP) department at the NIPDB aims to ensure that Namibia possesses adequate and sufficient skills to accommodate new investment, especially in emerging sectors. TIP works closely with various educational institutions and training programs to develop initiatives that will enhance the skills of the local workforce, making the country an attractive destination for investors. Partnerships are welcome to scale the impact of initiatives.

Skills for Trade & Economic Diversification Strategy (Energy Sector)

Namibia, Ongoing

An NIPDB programme, in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation, to foster energy sector-relevant skills to boost to support decent employment creation and economic diversification in Namibia. This program currently applied to the energy sector with aspirations to extent to other priority sectors helps us focus on the demand side of labour and ensure we align efforts in building skills required for this sectors.

Foreign Languages Capacity Building for Foreign Apprenticeships

Namibia, Ongoing

An NIPDB programme to enhance local youth readiness for international apprenticeship opportunities. Currently focussed on the German Apprenticeship Connect, resources are required to upskill Namibian youth in German language proficiency. The cost to B2 proficiency is estimated at N$40,000 per student. Some Namibians have found employment with MCS cruise while others have found apprenticeships in Germany.

Building a Competitive Namibia and Nation Brand

The NIPDB drives strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing Namibia’s business climate through trade and investment-related policy advocacy, global competitiveness benchmarking, and public-private dialogue. As Namibia’s lead investment promotion agency, we actively seek opportunities to engage with global partners to exchange knowledge, adopt best practices, and unlock investment-driven growth. We therefore welcome support from institutions aligned with our mission to advance a more competitive, dynamic, and inclusive economic landscape for all Namibians.

Brand Namibia Campaign

A cross-institutional strategic initiative to craft and strengthen Namibia’s nation brand by articulating a cohesive and compelling narrative that reflects the country’s unique identity, values, and competitive advantages. This project aims to position Namibia as a trusted and attractive destination for investment, tourism, and talent by aligning messaging across sectors, showcasing key national assets – including its natural beauty, stability, and innovation potential – and building brand equity in global markets.

Namibia Public-Private Forum (NAMPPF)

Namibia, Ongoing

High-level national platform which NIPDB is facilitating, to foster public-private dialogue on national competitiveness and employment creation. The platform is to be chaired by Her Excellency, the President of the Republic of Namibia.
