Namibia’s growing reputation as a premier tourism and investment destination has received a major boost with the announcement of a new direct, seasonal flight route between Zurich and Windhoek, to be launched by Edelweiss Air starting 1 June 2026.

The twice-weekly service, operating on Mondays and Fridays with the modern and fuel-efficient Airbus A350 will offer seamless, non-stop connectivity between Switzerland’s main travel hub and Namibia’s capital with flights running from June through October.

The route was secured through Air Connect Namibia, a collaborative air service development initiative led by the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) in partnership with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), Gondwana Collection, Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), the Walvis Bay Corridor Group, and the City of Windhoek.

“This new route is more than a flight; it’s a new bridge between Europe and Namibia,” said Bisey /Uirab, NAC CEO and spokesperson for Air Connect Namibia. “It elevates our country’s status as a global tourism and investment destination and reflects what can be achieved through strategic public-private collaboration.”According to Edelweiss, Namibia was selected for its unique appeal as a long-haul holiday destination offering safari experiences, vast desert landscapes and unforgettable stargazing. “Namibia is one of the most impressive destinations in Southern Africa,” the airline said in a statement. “It inspires with its biodiversity, unspoilt nature and exceptional hospitality.”This development is aligned with Namibia’s broader ambitions to become a competitive MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destination. Improved air access is critical to attracting high-value events and enhances Namibia’s attractiveness as a hub for business and leisure travel.

Switzerland remains one of Namibia’s strongest European origin-destination markets, with over 22,000 two-way passengers recorded in 2024 alone. The new route is expected to stimulate further growth in tourism, trade, and investment, while delivering economic benefits for the MICE and MSME sectors.
